On the Discrete-time H Fixed-lag Smoothing

چکیده
Abstract: This paper deals with the discrete-time H fixed-lag smoothing problem. Conventionally, this problem is solved by reducing it to a standard H filtering problem for a higher order system that includes not only the actual system dynamics but also the delay caused by the smoothing lag. As the smoothing lag gets larger, such an approach may suffer from computational problems, especially due to the fact that a high dimensional Discrete Algebraic Riccati Equation (DARE) is to be solved. To overcome this disadvantage, in this paper, a new solution to this problem is derived in terms of one DARE of the same dimensions as the actual system dynamics. Copyright c © 2002 IFAC

Effects of a Partial Lag on the Achievable Performance of the H∞ Fixed-lag Smoothing
The fixed-lag smoothing problem with a partial lag is the problem in which the presence of the smoothing lag is allowed only in a part of estimation channels. This paper studies the effect of a partial smoothing lag on the achievable H ∞ performance in the continuous-time case. In particular, the limit of the achievable performance is established and the saturation of the achievable performance...

متن کاملH, Fixed-Lag Smoothing and Prediction for Linear Continous-Time Systems'
This paper addresses the H , fixed-lag smoothing and prediction problems for linear continuous-time systems. We first present a solution to the optimal HZ estimation problem for linear continuous-time systems with instantaneous and delayed measurements. It is then shown that the H , fixedlag smoothing and prediction problems can be converted to the latter problem in Krein space. Therefore, the ...
متن کاملH∞ control and estimation with preview-part II: fixed-size ARE solutions in discrete time
H∞ preview control and fixed-lag smoothing problems are solved in general discrete time linear systems, via a reduction to equivalent open loop differential games. To prevent high order Riccati equations, found in some solutions, the state of the Hamilton-Jacobi system (HJS) resides in a quotient space of an auxiliary extended state space system. The dimension of that auxiliary space is equal t...
متن کاملOn the H∞ Fixed-lag Smoothing: How to Exploit the Information Preview
The problem of the continuous-time H∞ fixed-lag smoothing over the infinite horizon is studied. The first solution to the problem is derived in terms of one algebraic Riccati equation of the same dimension as in the filtering case and the mechanism by which the performance improvements with respect to the H∞ filtering occur is clarified. It is shown that the H∞ smoother exploits the information...
